The bird gene started in the family over 70 years ago with Gary’s Grandfather, John Read, who starting keeping birds when he was eight years old. The gene has carried on through Gary’s father and now finally on to Gary.

As a young tacker, Gary had his first birds when he was seven years old and kept a variety of finches and parrots, including zebra finches, rosellas, grass parrots, Australian ringnecks and neophemas. The family also had a pet, hand raised sulphur crested cockatoo.  He had great success keeping birds during his youth and had a break from these beloved creatures when he turned sixteen. At this time his attentions turned to birds of the two legs and no wings variety!

In 1998 at the age of twenty-one, Gary was involved in a motorcycle accident and as a result became quadriplegic. Along with this life changing event saw a return to the hobby he loved so much as a child. With his wife Eliza they have found great joy and self-fulfilment through their birds.

Gary and Eliza strive to give their birds the best possible diet and housing conditions to ensure an optimum environment for their breeding stock, thus providing healthy youngsters for breeders and pet owners alike.
